Naval Parachutist Course
Naval Parachutist Course is a demanding physical and mental course for personnel of the United States Navy and Navy Reserve. The goal of the course is to train these individuals to effectively conduct military parachuting operations from ships, aircraft, static lines, and from heights of 250 feet to 12,500 feet. The course is designed to provide personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct safe and successful parachute jumps into the water or other land-based drop areas. The course is offered at the Naval Parachute Training Center in San Diego, California. The course consists of numerous theoretical and practical training sessions which include, but are not limited to, static-line jumps, free-fall jumps, aircraft drill, sea and shore jumps, water jumps, and night jumps. The use of all U.S. Navy parachutes, parachuting systems, and equipment is taught throughout the course. Personnel who successfully complete the course will earn the U.S. Navy Parachutist insignia, commonly referred to as "the wings of gold," along with the title of Naval Parachutist.
