Philosophy of Education
Philosophy of Education
The course includes six lessons on the philosophy of education. The course considers basic topics involved in the process of education at all levels. It seems logical that teachers should discuss and analyze topics such as ontology, axiology and epistemology and related issues in education and learning. This course is instructed by using a series of videos taught by Dr. Larry Gilbert. These classes were taught to students who were training to be teachers at different levels.
Once the student, future teacher, has underlying concepts of ontology, axiology, and epistemology, he/she can approach the basic concepts in education such as the characteristics of the learners, the curricula, and the role of the teacher. These concepts or theories in education help the student establish an approach to teaching and learning. The student should feel comfortable and confident that he/she knows the different ways that a learner gathers information, analyzes it, organizes this information into clear and helpful concepts and operational systems. Next, the student, future teacher, will take a look at the curricula. This involves an overview of courses taught at different levels and why these courses are included. And finally, the course will discuss the role and responsibility of the teacher. Different teaching and learning techniques will be discussed and analyzed. This final objective will help the student develop a workable approach to teaching.
