The Guided Stretch
I created the Guided Stretch to cultivate and foster my clients’ connection to themselves, and to tap into those deeper resources. The Guided Stretch is a one-on-one assisted stretch session done on a massage table, with its roots in Yoga, meditation, and bodywork. The client is guided through a full-body experience, as stretches are held and deepened slowly with the rhythm of their breath, and the feeling of their release. They’re encouraged to tune into their sensations and the feeling of the release, so they can benefit on a deeper level.
Assisted Stretching is getting very popular, as more people are becoming privy to the myriad of benefits of greater flexibility, mobility, and range of motion. Massage studios are adding stretch sessions, and whole businesses are popping up geared solely towards assisted stretching. While this is all wonderful, it’s important to note what sets the Guided Stretch apart:
There is very little effort on the part of the client, and stretches are deepened slowly and intuitively by the practitioner
Following Yogic beliefs, the more subtle parts of the body are considered (Koshas, Chakras)
Safe elements of bodywork are infused, such as compression, rocking and tapotement
Assessments and at-home sequences are given to the client, as well as suggestions and/or tools to incorporate more mindful activities into their lives
