Best Pants Pattern Drafting Tutorial

Best Pants Pattern Drafting Tutorial

Not a lot of people knows how to draft a pants pattern. Some people thinks it is very hard to do. But once you follow my system, you will see just how easy it is. This is the way I was taught at school.

When you can design any pants styles from just a pants pattern draft then this is amazing. Imagine being able to sew a shorts, a Palazzo, straight, or a three-quater-length pants, using this pattern that I am showing you.

In the tutorial, I am using the ABC label system. On the pattern paper I draw a vertical centerline to separate the back and front legs. This is called the side by side method.

Whatever I do on the back leg, I also do on the front leg. Therefore, both  legs are finish simultaneously. You do not need to copy from one pattern unto the other vice versa.

This makes it very easy to correct a leg without interfering with the other leg. I find this approach very powerful.

In included in this tutorial is a written file for you to download. It is found under the Measurement heading.

Because the pattern calls for some calculation especially when marking down the hip, crotch extension, and the waist, in the description section of those lecture, I wrote down the formula with an example for each.

This will makes it easier for you to grasp the concept.

In the next video I will show how to use this same pants drafting pattern to sew a straight pants, and how insert pockets, Front fly zipper, and how to add a back zipper.
