Ancient Lampwork Glass Beads
Ancient Lampwork Glass Beads
This class will be presented to show the student how to create ancient glass beads to make beautiful designs. The class is intended for the beginning student and does not require a lot of experience or expensive tools and equipment. The class will start with an introduction and a presentation slide of the class Syllabus. The instructor will then give a brief description of the prerequisites required for the class.
The first lecture will discuss some design considerations including the use of muted colors of glass instead of the standard, bright colors. The instructor will then progress into the next section where different types of Mechanical Texturing tools will be used to achieve a pitted, rustic and ancient look. We will review using a wire brush, a handmade graphite texture plate, dental tools and a Dremel Handheld grinder to achieve the desire look.
Material Texturing will also be presented using some familiar materials for both texturing applications as well as surface finishes. Demonstrations of Baking Soda, Calcium Carbonate, Coarse Salt, Enamels and Frit will all be examined. In addition, surface treatments will also be presented including a review of etching and staining.
A short wrap up will conclude the class.
