Paper one ----- the building blocks of structured questions

I personally believe that better preparation for paper one makes the papers with structured questions lot easier. These 30 questions can be from anywhere from the syllabus but they definitely cover the most important topics. Depreciation based on straight line method and reducing balance method with different scenarios, accruals and prepayments, disposal of assets with calculation of profit or loss on their sale, suspense account with error corrections to find the opening balance and the list goes on. Folks, my point is that these questions are the components of structured questions which require calculations. Once you learn to understand and figure out the questions, you will build enough confidence and will do great on all the papers.

I have divided the videos for each paper into 3 parts. Part one consists of questions 1 to 11 or 12 and in most cases these questions cover accounting concepts, depreciation, non-current assets, control accounts, trial balance and suspense account, bank reconciliation, accruals and prepayments, provision for doubtful debts, error correction, revenue expenditure and capital expenditure, payment received in advance and sole proprietors. Part 2 starts from question 12 or 13 and goes all the way to 20. These questions test your knowledge of partnerships and company accounts. In partnership accounts, you definitely get a chance to work on goodwill, appropriation of profit, admission and retirement of a partner, capital and current accounts, revaluation and realization accounts. As far as limited companies are concerned, expect to see questions about dividends, rights issue, bonus shares, types of shares, return on capital employed and other ratios. Part 3 covers the topics of management accounting in the last 10 questions of the paper. These questions assess your familiarity with inventory costing methods, cost classification, overhead absorption, marginal costing, absorption costing, contribution and margin of safety, cost volume profit analysis and budgeting most of the time.

This course goes at a fairly good pace and ideally you should mark the topics that you are weak in and then revise them. I have tried to explain almost every question and have used power point slides for quite a few of them as well and you can download those files.

By the time you are done with these papers, you will definitely have improved your ability to understand and figure out the questions, increased your speed and accuracy and would feel more confident solving questions on your own.

Fellas, my own goal is to help you get 25 or more questions right in your exams and it is not difficult at all.
