Getting your first job - without experience
Getting your first job - without experience
It's a catch-22: you need a job to get experience, but you need experience to get a job! How do you navigate the difficulties of convincing an employer to hire you if you don't have any on-the-job experience to back it up?
In this course we're going to look at how what you already have is valid, marketable experience that you can use to get you a job. We'll learn about the number one rule of job applications - it's not about you, it's about how your unique skills and experience can benefit the employer. We'll learn about the roles of the cover letter, resume, and interview, and how you can leverage them to make the employer notice.
This course is excellent for students who are looking for a co-op or internship, new grads who are looking for their first job, and anyone else who is looking to break into an industry they aren't experienced in.
I am a post-secondary educator with more than a decade of experience working with students and new grads who are looking for jobs. I've seen hundreds of student resumes - both as an advisor and as an employer - and I've come to understand that many student resumes suffer from similar problems. I've condensed my experience into this course for you.
