Gastrointestinal diseases (GIT) are those affecting any part of the gastrointestinal tracts from the mouth to anus, where diarrhea is an example of GIT disorders.


Diarrhea defined as the passage of three or more loose or liquid stools per day. It often lasts for a few days and can result in dehydration due to fluid loss. Signs of dehydration often begin with loss of the normal stretchiness of the skin. Although most cases of diarrhea are self-limited (happening for a fixed amount of time and steady level of severity), sometimes diarrhea can lead to serious complications.


According to WHO, Diarrhea is considered as the second leading cause of death in children and the leading cause of malnutrition in children under five years old.

In this course you will learn different types of diarrhea, causes and complications, how to treat diarrhea in children and adults using non-pharmacological and pharmacological approach, in addition to complete evaluation of patient with regard to dehydration and management.


Pharmacists will be able to take medical history, medicine dispensing and provide adequate education to patients who use antidiarrheals. Pharmacists are drug experts that have the access to educate the patients, and patient education will help improve treatment's efficacy and ensures patients' safety.
