Children's Mental Health; A Parent's Mental Health Guide
Children's Mental Health; A Parent's Mental Health Guide
How do we begin to support our children with their Mental Health?
As a child I was taught to tie my laces, to read, and to write, yet no one taught me to understand and manage my emotions, thoughts, and feelings. As a parent, I taught my own children to clean their teeth, eat five a day and exercise for their physical health, but I didn’t do the same for their mental health. No one told me to, and I myself was struggling through life.
How could my life have changed if I retrained my mind-muscle for my mental health and fitness as we do our body muscles for our physical health?
Our minds have one job to do and that is to find the truth in what we tell it. Together with our brain, they create our reality and the lens through which we see life. What was I telling my own mind?
Through my experience as a parent and my knowledge as a practitioner, with a Masters in Mental Health Psychology, I wanted to support other parents to understand their minds and work proactively with them, so that they can lead better lives and encourage their children to do the same.
We need to start to be more proactive to mental health and not wait till we are having to react to it, to give it our attention and support
