Learn Watercolour in Five Fun Classes with Jane Davies

Learn Watercolour in Five Fun Classes with Jane Davies

I’d like to show you how to paint five beautiful watercolour pieces in real time. These are a great way for me to introduce you to my loose flowing wet on wet technique. You’re going to be amazed how fun and easy they are to create, and they’re going to put a big smile on your face!

As we work through the pieces together, I’m going to share with you many of my techniques, tips and tricks that I use in my own professional work. You’ll go away with the knowledge and confidence to paint your own pieces using these loose flowing techniques without over fussing... it’s a very liberating feeling!

Simple Trees

Even if you’ve never painted before, in just 15 minutes you will create your first piece, a mini landscape I call Simple Trees. It’s fun exercise with immediate results and endless creative possibilities, and it gives the first wonderful glimpse at the new artist in you!

In this short class I’ll be showing you how to add paint onto wet paper without fussing too much, and how to tilt the paper and allow paint to run to produce some lovely soft natural lines and shapes

I will also share with you some of my favourite paints and paper

Simple Butterflies

Simple Butterflies is fabulous subject to begin to show you three of my favourite techniques: layering, timing and that much coveted watercolour method of creating lost and found edges

We will look at how to add colours straight on top of one another to create some beautiful and interesting marks on the butterfly wings. I’ll also be giving you some tips on timing and paint application when it comes to painting the body of the butterfly. And how to paint a second wash, or layer, over one of the butterflies. This is a great way for me to introduce you to layering of watercolour to create more depth and strength in your paintings

Mr Fox

Then we will be ready to tackle the first of two Masterclass lessons, the fabulous Mr Fox! We’ll put together the skills from the first two classes, and I’ll be guiding you gently through the whole thing, with some of my favourite tips and tricks!

We will go back over the techniques we’ve learned, such as tilting the paper to allow the paints to run, which will give you a lovely sense of movement. We will be adding another layer, or wash, to give you more depth and strength, and you will begin to get a sense of how layering paint builds up detail in your painting

We will also be putting into practice timing and paint application so we can pop on his nose and the colour around his eye. I’ll also show you some tips and tricks to painting a very simple eye that will bring your fabulous Mr Fox to life!

Balloon Dog

Balloon Dog is a fun lesson that will have you smiling and wanting to paint Balloon Dogs everywhere!

He has very simple shapes that aren’t too intimidating if you are feeling unfamiliar with adding wet layers on top of one another. We will build up three layers in a really simple, fun way, which you are going to love. And we use just one colour

I’ll show you how to work quickly and confidently, without the need of lots of fussing, by being bold with the amount of colour we use. In the third layer I can show you how to add and take away colour, to build up the feeling of that squeaky balloon dog

Panda

Our final piece will be the beautiful Panda, another masterclass, where we will learn all about sectioning areas off, and pulling everything we’ve learned together so far

This particular technique is great for anything that has a divide in, such as an ear, or an eye patch, then we soften it all down with another layer to blend those hard edges

We will also go back over many techniques, such as tilting the paper to allow those paints to run, giving a lovely feeling of fur. We will also be taking colour out to get those lovely lost and found edges that are so prized in watercolour paintings. I’ll also be showing you another way to paint eyes, in a really simple and easy to apply method

I have provided templates throughout so you will be able to concentrate on the fun of painting. In just three hours of fuss-free painting together you will be amazed and delighted at the beautiful pieces you create, and gain the confidence to continue using all the techniques in your own future work

I want you to experience that buzz of painting in this liberating wet on wet loose style

So come and join me!
