Occupational Therapy in Mental Health & Suicide Prevention
Occupational Therapy in Mental Health & Suicide Prevention
In this course, you will learn about how occupational therapy fits into the mental health, substance abuse, and suicide prevention fields. I will share with you my Doctoral Capstone project, artifacts from my experience, and what I learned while completing this 14-week opportunity. Suicide in the farming community is my primary topic, where I share facts, literature, and information from key informants. I will also share what needs to be done to assist this population, as well as how I distributed information to rural towns in Northeast Nebraska. I discuss my experience as an occupational therapy student at a mental health site who had never had and occupational therapy student as an intern, as well as the opportunities that were provided to me during my time as an intern. In this presentation, you will see the need for occupational therapy in mental health and the importance of looking at individuals holistically. This overall provides the client with the best care possible. You will also understand the lack of mental health resources in small communities and why suicide rates tend to be higher in those communities. I encourage you to join me on this journey of spreading my message about occupational therapy in mental health and the importance of OT in suicide prevention.
