Human Anatomy and Physiology- 1. The Foundations, is a self-paced course that covers the fundamental knowledge that is necessary as a pre-requisite to taking an anatomy and/or physiology course.  This includes the basic biological, chemical and biochemical concepts that form the foundation of the more advanced concepts learned in anatomy and physiology.

This course builds on and reviews the concepts covered in secondary/high school biology and chemistry including:

  • essential anatomical and physiological terminology

  • properties of chemicals and chemical reactions

  • the unique characteristics of water

  • solutions, colloids and suspensions

  • organic and inorganic compounds

  • the significance and properties of carbohydrates, lipids proteins and nucleic acids

  • the importance of enzymes in reactions that occur in the body

This course presents material in a clear and concise way, with important points in text. The course would be particularly useful to students who need to review these critical concepts to prepare for entrance examinations into the allied health professions, or existing health professional students who need to review the material prior to certification board examinations.  Existing students who need a different perspective to advance their learning would also benefit from this course.
