Upasamanussati: Buddhist Meditation To Cultivate Calmness

Upasamanussati: Buddhist Meditation To Cultivate Calmness

This Meditation to cultivate Calm has its roots in the Buddha's meditation tradition. Traditionally this branch of meditation is known as Anussati.

Anussati means 'to recollect' or 'contemplate upon'. Here we meditate upon the qualities of Buddha which he acquired after Nirvana or enlightenment.

The goal of these practices is to Grow peace, Create Insight and Banish Fear in our day-to-day life.

Upasamanussati is one of the Anussati Meditations where we contemplate upon peace or calm.

The recollection of peace (upasamanussati) actually infers nirvana in the sense of ‘absolute peace’. The aspirant contemplates it as a state free from sufferings and full of peace of Nirvana. He is then able to cultivate peace and calmness in day-to-day life.
