Martial arts - Tambo training
Martial arts - Tambo training
The tambo is a short staff (generally 1.5 to 2 feet in length) constructed of hardwood or bamboo. This weapon is traditionally used in several styles of martial arts including: Okinawan kobudo, jujutsu, aikido, kobudo, hapkido, yoseikan budo, and Cuong Nhu.
This weapon is also similar to the escrima stick that is used in the Philippine style of Arnis. The escrima stick in this system may be used either singly (as a single stick or in combination with a knife) or in pairs (two sticks).
The self-defense techniques for this simple weapon include thrusting strikes, checks or deflections, pummeling the enemy (with the ends), blocking strikes, joint locks, and parrying various sorts of attacks.
This course teaches the traditional stances, strikes, blocks, self-defense techniques and katas for the single and double tambo and how it may be used in combination with other weapons. Techniques for both styles (using the sticks as either the tambo or escrima stick) are described in clear detail for easy learning. It is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self defense.
Grandmaster Michael A. Stelzer holds several advanced ranks (10th Dan and above) in various styles of martial arts. Additionally, he holds three doctoral of science degrees and is a certified professional wrestler.
