Gas Turbine and Auxiliaries in Power Plants

Gas Turbine and Auxiliaries in Power Plants

Gas Turbine in Power Plants: A Complete Guide to Gas Turbines

Gas turbine is one of the most popular turbines used for electric power generation in power plants

You can simply learn how gas turbine and its auxiliary systems work together in power plants to generate electric power WITHOUT having any prior experience in engineering, as this course is suitable for anyone interested in gas turbine regardless of their background

This course is made to teach anyone, even a complete beginner, how to deal with any main or auxiliary system of gas turbine in power plants. By the end of this course, you’ll be ready to apply for a job in oil and power field, particularly power plants, and make a good impression at an interview, as this course covers every system that you could find in any power plant that use gas turbines.

About This Course

In this course, we’re going to start from STEP ZERO! If you know nothing about machines, electricity, power plants, gas turbines, transformers or generators, don’t worry! Every topic discussed in this course is explained from scratch.

This course starts with defining gas turbine, its components, and what each component does, and explains how gas turbines are used in power plants and their configurations, whether single-cycle or combined-cycle power plants. This course also analyzes the Bryton cycle and applies it on gas turbines.

This course also explains the basics of electricity and three-phase electric power, preparing you for understanding transformers, generators and induction theory that explains how generators produce electricity.

Fuel gas and oil preparation, processing, regulation and filtration are also included in this course. You will go through every step of fuel processing from the supplier to combustion, and you’ll learn about fuel ignition and combustion in detail.

This course also covers purging systems, it explains NOx water purging and Nitrogen purging, which a process expels fuel remains from pipelines and combustion chambers after turbine shutdown and startup.

Oil systems, which are the most important systems of gas turbines, are also covered in details in this course. Each oil system and every component of every system is explained in details, from the lube oil system, which is used for turbine bearings cooling and lubrication, to jacking oil system, which is used to lift turbine shaft up, to power oil system, which is used to control hydraulic valves and safety valves, to rotor barring oil system, which is used to rotate turbine shaft right before startup and after shutdown.

This course also covers closed-cycle cooling water system and explains every part of it. Also, various types of coolers are explained, as well as the heat exchange process in each one. You’ll learn how closed-cycle cooling water is used to cool down oil systems and generator windings.

Air intake system is also included in this course in details, as each component of the system explained, including air filtration, pulse filters cleaning, air regulation, airflow control by variable inlet guide vanes, compressor surge suppression by blow-off valves and the use of compressor air for turbine sealing and cooling.

This course explains how transformers work, their parts, what each part of transformer does, types of transformers and when to use each type. Transformers configuration in power plants is also explained in this course.

As you can see, this course is comprehensive, I hope you’ll make the best out of it and understand how electric power plants use gas turbines to generate electric power.
