Dyslexia Intervention in the General Classroom
This course is an introductory course for the general classroom teacher and covers a wide range of tips and strategies that can be employed to assist students with dyslexia in the general classroom. The strategies are clustered into main ideas and it is those main ideas that are discussed and highlighted in order to enable teachers to understand fully the underlying ideas and then generate their own tips and techniques that are practical and can be used straight away in their classroom settings. Main ideas such as teaching styles, learning styles, integrated curriculum and social versus medical models are discussed in this course in addition to observation and spelling error analysis. The course also explains an Observational Framework that teachers can employ while observing their students with dyslexia inside the general classroom. In addition to teachers, this course, because of its accessible language, can also be a great tool to support parents who are willing to understand how to best provide help and support for their children with dyslexia including both support at home and working closely with their children's teachers at school. The course also explains the elements of a good support curriculum for students with dyslexia and how can teachers and parents use such elements to provide good support for their students with dyslexia.
