Hymns on Guitar 1: "It Is Well With My Soul"

This course is designed to help experienced guitarists to play hymns on the classical guitar. At the example of the well-known Christian hymn "It Is Well With My Soul," the student is guided step by step through the piece. Both melody and accompaniment are focused on in order to be played together in two different keys and in two different ways. At the end, a modulation is proposed to link both key areas together. Over the whole course, all chords and harmonies are identified and explained on the basis of music theory. A basic ability to imitate fingerings and chord shapes from the video is therefore necessary. The student learns to play in two key areas as well as to show melody and accompaniment at the same time. With various picking patterns for the right hand and advanced chord playing, the principles of harmony and music theory are applied to the classical guitar. Among the target students are hobby or amateur guitarists, worship leaders at churches, and college music students with a major, minor, or concentration in guitar. While there are many popular songs taught in similar way on various online platforms, I have hardly encountered teaching videos demonstrating hymn playing on guitar so far. Thus, I hope to contribute to meet a possible demand.
